Dave joined the ZIPN at the University of Southampton as a Research Fellow in 2012.  He works on translating novel photonics into lab-on-a-chip devices for biomedical applications, particularly mid-infrared spectroscopy for point-of-care diagnostics.  He is part of the departmental Athena SWAN team, which won a Bronze award in 2019.

He thrives in an interdisciplinary environment and is an enthusiatic collaborator across many fields.  He received his BEng in Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University in 2009.  He completely his PhD ('Microfluidic microwave resonant sensors') in 2012.

He has received various awards including the 2011 Institute of Physics Mansell Davies award and was nominated for a Vice Chancellor's Award in 2019 for his work on equality and diversity.
