Dr Gregory Jasion is a Senior Research Fellow in the Hollow Core Fibre research group. He obtained his MEng in Aerospace engineering at the University of Southampton in 2008 and completed his PhD on helicopter blow dust clouds in 2013, before joining the Hollow Core Fibre group in the Optoelectronics Research Centre as a specialist in numerical modelling of multiphase flow. He was awarded a Research Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2016 to develop hollow core fibres for the transmission of extremely high-power laser light.

Dr Jasion has developed several techniques to model the flow of glass during Hollow Core Fibre (HCF) draws to draw fibres virtually, identifying draw parameters and morphology, and guiding fibre fabrication. This has been particularly successful for a more recent design of fibre: the Nested Antiresonant Fibre (NANF). Working with this new design the Hollow Core Fibre group demonstrated a step change in HCF technology and broke the long-standing loss record for HCF three times since 2018, we hold the record for the lowest loss HCF ever made: 0.28 dB/km announced at OFC 2020.

Dr Jasion specialises in numerical modelling to identify new fibre designs, improve performance and fibre fabrication, he has filed 3 patents and co-authored over 70 conference papers and journal articles.
