Dr Hesham Sakr

Dr Hesham Sakr started his Engineering career at the Mansoura University, Egypt, before enrolling in an Undergraduate Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Nottingham, UK, graduating with a First Class BEng (Hons). Hesham then commenced a PhD at the Mid-Infrared Photonics Group, University of Nottingham, UK, in the rapidly- developing field of mid-infrared (IR) passive and active fibre-optics. The PhD was funded by the award: “University of Nottingham, Dean of Engineering Research Scholarship for International Excellence”. Following his PhD, Hesham joined the Centre for Photonics and Smart Materials (CPSM) at Zewail City of Science and Technology, Egypt as a Senior Instructor. Currently, Hesham is a Research Fellow at the Microstructured Optical Fibres group, ORC, University of Southampton, UK. His work focuses on producing low-loss hollow core microstructured fibres for high power delivery and telecoms applications.

Dr Sakr's research interests include near- and mid-infrared glass preparation and characterisation; active and passive optical fibres; optics and photonics.
