James Field

James is a final year Ph.D student in the Optical Engineering and Quantum Photonics group, under the supervison of Dr J.C. Gates, Dr S.A Berry, Dr C.B.E. Gawith and Prof P.G.R. Smith.

Research

Research interests

James's research investigates methods of using tilted Bragg gratings manufactured using small-spot Direct UV writing to make miniaturised integrated spectrometers. He is interested in laser writing techniques, planar photonic integration, and software control of lab systems.

Teaching

James has previously taught in Physics and Astronomy at Southampton, demonstrating First-Year labs, Introduction to Photonics and Quantum Physics of Matter.
