As of 2019 he is now a research fellow within the OEQP group working on the development of novel gratings structures largely in optical fibre.

After getting his MEng in Electronic Engineering with Nanotechnology at the University of Southampton Rex joined the group in 2014 as a PhD student. His thesis investigated the optimisation, fabrication and application of Bragg gratings in optical fibre and UV written waveguides to quantum technology.

Currently his main focus is on the development of tilted fibre gratings for polarisation, filtering and sensing.
